Profile
Quite simply – I love gardens. Certainly, there’s nothing like relaxing in a tranquil garden at the end of a busy day. Or as satisfying as pottering in the garden and seeing things grow. I enjoy visiting gardens to gain ideas and inspiration. Some of my favourites include the parklands of Castle Howard and the walled garden at Alnwick. In contrast, I also love to visit private gardens like those opened through Scotland’s Garden Scheme. There are some real jewels out there!
Having gained a degree in Geography, I worked in the construction industry as a Chartered Quantity Surveyor for two decades. Eventually, I decided to build on my passion for gardens and formally train as a garden designer. I therefore studied at the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh gaining a Diploma in Garden Design with Distinction. The culmination of this course saw my show garden design win a Silver Gilt medal at Gardening Scotland (http://www.artisangardendesign.net/native-plants-in-your-garden/).
After that, I established Artisan Garden Design to help people like you make the best possible use of their outdoor spaces. Above all I can create gardens to suit any situation, taste or budget. It’s so rewarding helping clients to see their garden in a whole new light. Likewise, helping to solve tricky garden problems is immensely satisfying!
As a result of my surveying background I have technical expertise in measuring and drawing gardens. In addition, I have years of experience in liaising with contractors to make sure my designs are constructed to a high standard and provide value for money.
In short, I believe that every garden has the potential to be wonderful.
